Campion College Campus, 8.30 a.m. The girls come over from the girls house and the boys who live upstairs at the campus come down to meet in the chapel. Like every morning after breakfast and quiet time we start with the ‘divine office’, a prayer that Catholics all over the world pray daily at set times. It’s always amazing to discover that this prayer, though ‘universal’ seems to speak right to your heart, as if it was only meant for you and only for this specific day…
After morning prayer we go upstairs to our lecture room. Sometimes we have worship, but today we do intercession. We are praying for the KT-team in Ireland that is starting their DTS this week. God speaks very strong to us and we come up with quite a couple of scriptures to encourage the new students and staff.
At 10.00 our good friend Paul Richards from a YWAM base in the neighbourhood comes in to give us a lecture and to minister us. He speaks about outreach and focuses on unity among the team by which we will testify to the people we’re going to meet. Around 11.00 we have morning tea, a strong ‘cuppa’ and a ‘Tim Tam’ (nice chocolate cookies) are always more than welcome!
The second lecture-session starts about half an hour later and normally goes on until Holy Mass at 12.40. But today father John is out so we have more time for lectures. Paul prays and prophecies over each one of us personally, he really has a gift for it!
We all go over to the girls house for lunch. That’s only a short walk because it’s just around the corner of our street. Today we have shepherd’s pie, yummy! The wash-up roster has been off since Christmas, but there’s still always someone who picks up the task. After we’re finished everyone is free until 14.30. In the afternoon the program is always different. Sometimes we have more lectures, review or outreach preparation, sometimes we go to a juvenile detention centre, etc. But today it’s Thursday so we have a talk with our ‘one-on-one’.
At 16.30 it’s time for our working duties. We all help with the cooking and cleaning tasks to keep the school running. Since the boys live at the campus of a new college that has just been renovated, there’s always lots of cleaning to do. After a day of sitting and listening it’s not that bad to sweep the veranda or clean the bathroom, at least it gives you some time to process the things you’ve heard.
When everyone is back at the girls house around 18.30 it’s dinnertime. Since we started with fasting dinner on Wednesday’s for our outreach preparation, today the food tastes double good! After washing up everyone is free today to relax and have fun, phone home or check email, work on our journals or assignments, do the laundry etc. And then… it’s time to go to sleep, tomorrow there’s another busy day that starts early with breakfast, quite time, morning prayer etc. But although the program looks pretty tight our days are never the same, there’s always lots of surprises and challenges in the life of KT DTS in Sydney!
